The Federal University of Health Sciences, Ila-Orangun (FUHSI) Library commenced the year 2026 in grand style, marking the occasion with a vibrant and well-attended New Year celebration on 15 January 2026. What began as a typical working day quickly transformed into a lively afternoon of gratitude, reflection, and collegial bonding as the library came alive with colour, music, and shared joy.

Library staff, fabulously dressed in customised, branded FUHSI Library shirts paired with matching face caps, gathered to give thanks to God for a fulfilling and productive 2025. The atmosphere was one of appreciation and renewed commitment, underscoring the Library’s culture of teamwork and excellence.

In her opening remarks, the University Librarian, Mrs Bukky Asubiojo, FNLA, reflected on the demanding yet rewarding journey of 2025. She described the year as intensely work-filled from start to finish, highlighting several landmark achievements. These included the Library’s relocation to its permanent site, the hosting of a book exhibition in honour of Chief Bisi Akande’s 86th birthday, and the acquisition, purchase, and processing of new books and information resources. Of particular note was the acquisition through donation of medical textbooks valued at over USD 30,000, as well as the organisation of impactful soft skills programmes for the university community.

Mrs Asubiojo also acknowledged the Library’s critical role in the preparation and successful accreditation of the University’s pioneering academic programmes by the National Universities Commission (NUC). Beyond institutional milestones, she expressed gratitude for the many personal and professional achievements recorded among library staff during the year, including weddings, naming ceremonies, PhD and Master’s convocations, new academic admissions, professional bodies appointments and elections, as well as the winning of grants and scholarships. She further gave thanks for God’s continued protection and safe journey mercies enjoyed daily by staff.

The celebration concluded with a convivial get-together marked by music, games, shared experiences, and reflections on the year 2025. Guests were treated to a sumptuous spread of three assorted meals, complemented by a variety of local and continental refreshments, as lively, danceable music filled the air. Individually and collectively, staff members shared their memorable moments from the year and expressed deep appreciation for the leadership of the University Librarian, describing her as approachable, friendly, and kind. The occasion ended with prayers for Mrs Asubiojo, FNLA, wishing her continued joy, good health, peace of mind, and divine blessings upon her and her family, as the FUHSI Library looks forward to an even more impactful year ahead.
