It all started when I heard about the Student Work Scheme at the library from a friend. My first thought was… Oh, this is another library program I wouldn’t want to miss.
I was so excited and rightly so. If you know the library, you know they always dish out activities that speak to my interests.
I decided to ask for more information from some of the staff. That’s when I found out the library had just received a whole lot of books that needed to be processed in 2 days. It sounded exciting… another opportunity to interact, learn and experience real teamwork. So I opted in and… gbam! The experience began.
One of my best places to be is the FUHSI Library. The aura there is unmatched and the staff are so accommodating. At first, I started in the stamping section with my team. Later, we moved to the cataloguing section and it was all pure fun especially working with my team members and a little bit stressful though.
In just 2 days, I: ▪Got hands-on with book processing (now those terms I learned in 100l makes sense 😅 ) ▪Networked and made new friends ▪Recalled concepts we’ve learnt by spotting them in real time with my friend ▪Discovered useful learning materials and novels (already made my next reading list🤭) ▪Shared laughter and campus experiences ▪Also learned more about interpersonal relationships ▪Practiced teamwork in a real setting
And yes… the smell of books? I loved every bit of it🥰. Of course, the library also compensated us but honestly, the knowledge, connections and atmosphere were already more than rewarding.
A big thank you to the University Librarian, Mrs Bukky Asubiojo, CLN, FNLA, Dr Azeez ADEOYE Ph.D. MNLA, MMLA, CLN, Mr Bayor Joseph Odelami, CLN, MNLA, MMLA, and all the library staff for this opportunity and my teammates for making it such a worthwhile experience.
If you ever got a chance to work in a library — especially FUHSI library, don’t think twice. It’s more than just books there, you’ll get to meet people and contribute to something meaningful.
